Extended memory functionality (beneficial for all supported platforms even those platforms which cannot be equipped with more than 2GB)
   Most powerful console for AmigaOS
   New Intuition features
   New Workbench features
   Much improved DOS
New unified graphics library with RTG support which allows for (current and future) very substantial general and platform specific performance optimizations e.g. through     the use of on-chip DMA engines (present on recently released hardware going back to the Sam440)
   Updated Python port

Countless minor updates, increased functionality and bug-fixes.

    Review for OS 3.1.4

I Have been using OS 3.9 for some time now and switching to OS3.1.4 was a bit of a jolt. I installed the ROM set for my A4000D and started the update process on a new hard drive. Now when I try to boot my old OS3.9 hard drive it crashes on boot up so be aware that there are some issues going returning to 3.9 with the new ROM. This may have occurred even if I had installed OS3.1.4 over my OS3.9 install but I have no way of knowing. It is likely just a need to change the OS3.9 startup-sequence to adjust ROMUPDATE etc, settings needed by The 3.1.4 ROM. OS 3.1.4 has all the features of OS3.9 but you do have to work at it to bring them forward. It was nice that 3.9 bundled everything for you but at the end of the day there wasn't much difference between 3.1 and 3.9 except the packaged utilities. The major improvements of OS3.1.4 in my opinion are stability and the ability to use large hard drives without the pain of convoluted procedures to get it setup. I haven't experienced the numerous system crashes and lockups I had with OS3.9. Not pointing fingers as it may be my particular setup BUT I have to say with OS3.14 installed the crashes have vanished. Setting up a 128gig SSD was super simple as compared to setting it up in OS3.1 or 3.9. The biggest difference being I can now use the entire 128 gig without the need to setup a different file system and the pain of getting it installed on the older OS. All-in-all I am very impressed with OS 3.14 and the 3.1.4.1 update. I would recommend it for any serious Amiga fan.
